St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.
The Quality Assurance Framework of the institution has been developed to assure academic standards and enhance the quality of education. It underlines the institution’s commitment to excellence and improvement.

Project summery:
The heavy quark spectroscopy has undergone a great resurgence in recent years. This is mostly due to the experiments at CLEO,DELPHI,BELLE,BABAR, etc. which have been continuously providing more accurate and new information about the hadrons from light to heavy quark flavour sectors. Since the exact from of confinement from quantum chromo dynamics (QCD) is not known, one has to go for phenomenological models in order to study the properties of hadrons. Calculations and predictions of heavy mesons properties based on the QCD of quarks and gluons through the quark models have been the subject of extensive theoretical and experimental treatment for few decades. We propose to undertake a microscopic study of the heavy meson spectroscopy and their radiative transitions in the framework of relativistic (RQM)and non relativistic quark models (NRQM) and Chiral Quark Models(CQM). The project aims to use the NROM, RQM and CQM to calculate the masses of S, P and D wave heavy mesons and their radiative transitions.
Objectives of the project:
To obtain the spectra of heavy masons (S, P and D waves) in the framework of constituent quark models.
To make an exhaustive study of radiative transitions in heavy mesons.
To interpret the exotic mesons and to test the predictions of the lattice gauge theories.

Project Summary:
Over last two decades there is an enduring interest to make use of organic molecular systems in the (NLO) devices. Organic nonlinear optical (NLO) materials have been extensively studied because of their potential application in integrated optical signal processing, and optical switching, etc. Poled polymeric materials are promising materials for second-order NLO materials. They have large susceptibilities, fast response times, excellent mechanical and physical properties, and good to be process ability.
It is well known that, for a practical second harmonic generation nonlinear optical (SHG/NLO) material, one of its important properties is its stable non-centrosymmetric arrangement of chromophores. As the regular orientation of the polar chromophores would be damaged by the molecular thermal movement, the SHG activity decays fast. To obtained materials having persistency in the intrinsic second order nonlinearity over an extended period of time under desired conditions, is a challenging requirement. Presently, there is an intensive search for novel nonlinear optical (NLO) materials that may be used to design and prepare improved waveguide devices for nonlinear optical applications. Organic materials offer a number of advantages over inorganic crystals because of their high and ultra fast nonlinear response and a low dielectric constant, as well as the enormous design flexibility allowed by molecular engineering.
The main goal of the present study is to obtain a good medium for all-optical applications, by enhancing 3-rd order nonlinear Kerr effect. New organic materials they exhibit a promising performance in NLO applications and acceptable properties for technological preparation of channel waveguides.
Objectives of the project:
To synthesize the organic materials
Crystalize the materials to obtain respective seed crystals
Seed crystals are subjected to bulk growth
Crystals are then subjected to powder and single crystal XRD techniques to study and confirm their crystal structure
To study the mechanical and linear properties (hardness, refractive index and UV-Vis studies) of the crystals
To study the thermal stability of the crystal (DSC/ TG/DTA)
Study the nonlinear properties such as second harmonic generation and third order nonlinear optical properties (Z-scantechnique)
Establishing firm structure property relationship.
