St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.

Webinar on NEP 2020 – Opportunities & Challenges

National Level Webinar on NEP2020 – Opportunities & Challenges was held on 24 September 2021. Dr Karunakar Kotegar, Professor & Head Department of Computer Science, MIT, Manipal was the resource person. This session was utilized by 150 members.

NEP -2020 introduced by the Government of India will bring the revolutionary changes in the realm of Higher Education. It provides the equal opportunity to all section of Society. There is paradigm shift in the education system which exists presently. NEP 2020 is student Centric. He will learn the different contents based on his liking, not on their option given in the College. Students will select two core subject as well as the language.  There are elective papers that will strengthen his academics to face the challenges in the life. After two semesters student can stop the education due to some reasons, he will get the Certificate. At the end of four semesters if a student leaves, the diploma certificate will be given. After three years, i.e. at the end of 6 semesters, Graduation degree will be given. Add to this if a student study four years, the honors will be given. The Post graduation can also be done in one year mode after honors degree. The resource person Dr Karunakar Kotegar enumerated the Challenges and hurdles, also the opportunities of NEP 2020.
