St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.

Department of Sanskrit

Vision:

The vision of the Department is to excel through teaching human values through the prescribed syllabus and to nurture literary sensibilities, language competence and to promote thinking among the students.

Mission:

The Department aims at serving vibrantly and resourcefully to impart the four major skills of Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking to students, In Sanskrit which are known as- ‘Shravana, Manana, Nidhidhyasana.’ Whereas transforming the students into the rational human beings with an inquisitive and argumentative bent of mind through Teaching.

Objectives:

  •     To provide training through various cognitive skills which includes analyzing, speaking,

    listening, reading, evaluating and appreciating language

  •    To develop skills ,confidence and competence in written and  expression

  •     To enable the students to comprehend 

  •      To develop students ability to use Sanskrit in day today life

  •      To enable the students to understand the skimming and scanning skills from the written text
