St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.
The Quality Assurance Framework of the institution has been developed to assure academic standards and enhance the quality of education. It underlines the institution’s commitment to excellence and improvement.

St Philomena Autonomous College celebrated Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) with a meaningful program commemorating the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first Home Minister and unifier of the nation. The event, held in the college quadrangle at 9:00 am, began with a solemn pledge-taking ceremony led by the Principal, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro. Faculty and students vowed to uphold the unity and integrity of the nation, reflecting the ideals of Sardar Patel. Flowers were offered in homage to portrait of Sardar Patel, in honour of his essential role in uniting the nation.
The resource person Mr Vinil Rohan D’Souza, Assistant Professor in the Department of English, in his address highlighted Sardar Patel’s role in integrating princely states India and his vision for a secure, united nation. He encouraged students to embody the values of unity upheld by Patel in their endeavours to build a modern India.
Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, who presided over the event, urged the college community to commit themselves to the ideals of national unity, resonating with the theme of solidarity of the day. Dr Norbert Mascarenhas, Registrar (Academics), was also present on the occasion. NSS Officer, Dr Chandrashekar K, welcomed. Dr Dimple Jennifer Fernandez, Convener of the Red Cross Unit of the College, proposed a vote of thanks. Mr Prashantha Rai, Assistant Professor in the Department of Business Administration compered the program
Following the formal program, students, NCC cadets, and NSS and Red Cross volunteers engaged in a “Run for Unity,” which began at the college quadrangle and proceeded to Father Patrao Circle. This spirited run was organized to spread the message of national unity across the community. Lt. Johnson David Sequeira and Mrs Pushpa coordinated efforts to ensure the success of this initiative, which brought together participants from all walks of life.
