St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.
The Quality Assurance Framework of the institution has been developed to assure academic standards and enhance the quality of education. It underlines the institution’s commitment to excellence and improvement.

In a heartfelt event organized by the Staff Association of St Philomena College, two esteemed retired professors, Dr P.S. Krishna Kumar, former Vice-Principal, and Prof. A. Nagaraju, Head of the Department of Zoology, were honoured for their invaluable contributions to the institution. The ceremony was presided over by Very Rev. Fr Lawrence Mascarenes, the Correspondent of the college.
In his presidential address, Fr Lawrence Mascarenes lauded the dedication and passion exhibited by the honourees throughout their careers, emphasizing that retirement offers an opportunity to transition from professional life to personal passions. “Their commitment has been an inspiration to both students and colleagues, and we look forward to their continued social engagement,” he remarked.
Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, the Principal of the college, also commended the professors, noting that true fulfilment in any career comes from joy and enthusiasm in one’s work. He highlighted the professors’ originality, creativity, and commitment, particularly in guiding and motivating students, and extended his best wishes for their retirement.
Dr P.S. Krishna Kumar reflected on his student days and career journey, while Prof. Nagaraju expressed gratitude to those who had supported him over the years. Both shared fond memories of their time at the college.
Head of the Chemistry Department, Dr Malini K, delivered a accolade to Dr Krishna Kumar, while Assistant Professor of Chemistry, Dr Edwin D’Souza, read the citation. Mrs Shashiprabha, Head of the Department of Botany, delivered an address in honour of Prof. Nagaraju, with Assistant Professor Sriraksha B.V. reading his certificate of honour. The Vice-Principal, Dr Vijay Kumar Moleyar, was also present on stage.
Assistant professor Varija M and the Computer Science Department team rendered prayer, while Harshit Kumar, Coordinator of the M. Com Department, offered a warm welcome. Dr Dimple Fernandes, President of the Staff Association, delivered a vote of thanks, and Assistant professor Novelin Fernandes of the English Department compered the program.
