St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.
The Quality Assurance Framework of the institution has been developed to assure academic standards and enhance the quality of education. It underlines the institution’s commitment to excellence and improvement.

Student Council, St Philomena College, Puttur and Internal Quality Assurance Cell organized a felicitation ceremony for the Mangalore University Examination 2021 -22 rank holders in Silver Jubilee Memorial Hall of the College on 03 May 2023. The College has created history by securing 20 ranks. The jubilant felicitation ceremony was presided over by Very Rev. Fr Lawrence Mascarenhas, Correspondent of the College. In his Presidential remarks, he said that God given life is to be utilized in the best possible way by being useful to the society. Hard earned knowledge, when exploited in the right manner, will pave way to success. Dr Giridhar Rao, Joint Director Collegiate Education, Mangalore Region participated as chief guest and inaugurated the ceremony by lighting the sacred lamp. In his address he said that the students have a greater social responsibility. Once settled in life an individual has to do something worthwhile to the needy, alma -mater and the nation. Current age is knowledge age. People are gaining knowledge but lags in transforming acquired knowledge into wisdom. Learning makes one happy, young and strong when learning is stopped one becomes old and weak. He congratulated all concerned for the achievement of the college.
Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal congratulated the rank holders for etching an indelible mark with their hard work and dedication. He also remembered with gratitude the support by the teachers, parents and the Management.
Rev. Fr Stany Pinto, Campus Director participated as guest of honour and wished the students a better future wherein they could realize their dreams facing any challenges which one is compelled to confront with irrespective of any physical shortcomings.
Gerold D’costa, Vice President, Maide Deus Parish Pastoral Council was grace fully present on the dais.
Members of the Management Committee, Alumni Association President A. Jagajeevandas Rai, Office bearers of Parent Teacher Association Parents of the rank holders, Sr Lourdh Mary, Warden of St Philomena Women’s Hostel and Faculty of the College participated in the ceremony. Nagaprasad and team of Performing Arts rendered prayer. Dr Chandrashekhar and Bharathi S Rai, Student Welfare Officers welcomed and proposed vote of thanks respectively. Student Council president Mohammad Ashik, Secretary Anushree and Joint Secretary Shivani were present on the dais.
