St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

The Farewell programme named "ADIOS" for the Second year MSc students was held by First-year Postgraduate students with the association of P.G. Department of Physics, St. Philomena College on 14-09-2022 at P.G. Seminar Hall, St. Philomena College, Puttur.
On this occasion, the principal of the college, Rev Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro was the president of the function. Dr. A P Radhakrishna, Head of the Department of Physics, and Dr. E Deepak D Silva, Coordinator of the P.G. Department of Physics, were present on the occasion. Also, the faculty members, Dr Praveen Prakash D Souza P, Mr Vipin Naik N S, Dr Ashith V K, and Ms Hitha, were present during the function. The function began at 2:30 pm with the prayer sung by Ms Chaithrashree. The first Postgraduate student Ms Vaishnavi, was the master of ceremony for the function. Ms Khushmitha has welcomed all the faculty members and students.
Dr A P Radhakrishna, Head of the Physics Department, said students should adopt a scientific temper daily. Also, he said that students should go for higher studies and take all the opportunities.
While addressing the students, Dr E Deepak D Silva said that they should embrace diligence and faith in their future life. In addition, he has given importance to essential natural traits such as love, unity, brotherhood, equality, and peace. The students subtly embodied the selfless attitude and should set an example for others.
In his Presidential speech, Principal Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro advised the second-year students that change will be the universal principle. Students should accept the change of position, place, etc. He said that students should imbibe characteristics like socialisation and multitasking, which are very important to their future lives.
Two second-year students shared their opinions and experiences at St. Phimel's College. At last, the student, Ms Pallavi gave a vote of thanks to all the faculty members and students.
