The Youth Red Cross Society, NCC Army and Navy, NSS, Rovers and Rangers, IQAC and Health Center of St Philomena College (Autonomous)in association with Rotary Campco Blood Center, Puttur and KMC Hospital Mangalore, organized a Blood Donation Camp on August 21, 2025 at SJM Hall of the college.

The Guest of Honour Dr Samrudhi Singh, Medical Officer of the Blood Centre at KMC, Manglore emphasized the vital importance of voluntary blood donation in today’s healthcare system. She highlighted how every unit of blood donated can potentially save up to three lives and also educated the audience on key medical aspects of blood donation, including hemoglobin eligibility, donor age and weight criteria, blood group compatibility, and the importance of hydration and proper nutrition before and after donation. 

The Vice Principal of the college Dr Vijay Kumar Moleyar in his presidential address encouraged the donors. He further said that the students shall participate in social work and community engagement as a way of honoring those who serve selflessly and congratulated the coneveners, co ordinators and officers in   organizing the blood donation camp so effectively.

The programme was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by the dignitaries and commenced with a prayer by Performing Arts students of the college. Dr Ramachandra,Medical Officer, Rotary Campco Blood Center,Puttur, Rtn. Oscar Anand, NSS officer Dr Chandrashekar, NCC Officer Cpt.Johnson D Sequiera,Rovers leader Kalnder Shareef were present on the dias. Dr Dimple Jenifer Fernandes, convener of YRC welcomed everyone. The IQAC Co ordinator, Dr Edwin Dsouza gave vote of thanks.Sushma Crasta,Assistant Professor of English compered.Naval Officer Thejaswi Bhat,Ranger Leader ShriRaksha,Health Center in charge Shashiprabha and NSS officer Puspa N assisted.

Medical professionals from KMC Hospital and Rotary Campco Blood Center ensured the process was safe and efficient. Donors underwent health screenings, including hemoglobin and blood pressure checks, to confirm eligibility. Post-donation care and refreshments were provided, ensuring a smooth and reassuring experience for all participants. NCC Cadets,NSS volunteers,YRC Volunteers played a pivotal role in the event’s success by managing registrations, assisting donors through the process and coordinating with medical professionals to ensure efficiency at every stage. A total of 187 units of blood was collected from the donors.
