St Philomena College(Autonomous) was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

On the occasion of World Anti-Human Trafficking Day on 30 July 2023, St Philomena College Puttur organized a special event to raise awareness about the grave issue of human trafficking and the importance of combating it on 31 July 2023 at the PG Seminar Hall of the College. The college community, along with students, faculty, and staff, came together to mark this significant day with an awareness program which included administering Oath which aimed at understanding the menace of human trafficking and its impact on society. The institution aimed at addressing human trafficking issues if any through the committee in the college which works to educate students and staff on the warning signs of trafficking and collaborate with local organizations to combat trafficking in the community.
Prof. Ganesh Bhat K. Vice principal of the college presided over the program. In his presidential address he emphasized the role of educational institutions in fostering awareness and advocating for social change. He urged the students to become vigilant ambassadors in the fight against human trafficking and to work towards creating a safer and more just society.
Member Secretary of Antihuman Trafficking Club of the College Bharathi S Rai extended introductory remarks. Sheethal Kumar Student Welfare officer, St Philomena Centre for PG Studies and Research welcomed.
