St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.
The Quality Assurance Framework of the institution has been developed to assure academic standards and enhance the quality of education. It underlines the institution’s commitment to excellence and improvement.

The Centre for PG Studies and Research at St Philomena College, Puttur, organized ‘PHILO FREESIA -2K24’ Talents’ Day at the SJM Hall of the college on 9th January 2024. The event aimed to encourage students to participate in extracurricular activities alongside their academic commitments, fostering the development of well-rounded personalities.
The President of the program, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, the Principal of the college, emphasized that everyone possesses a unique talent in which they excel. He stated, ‘Today is the day to embrace that ability and showcase it. Involving oneself in various activities amidst busy study schedules will contribute to the formation of personality.’
Rev. Fr Stany Pinto, the Campus Director of the College and the Guest of Honor for the event, highlighted that organizing a talents’ day in the college provides the best platform for students to exhibit their hidden potential. It offers an opportunity to showcase individual talents and appreciate the unique abilities of others.
Mr Sheetal Kumar, the Student Welfare Officer, welcomed and the vote of thanks was proposed by Prithvi K, Assistant Professor in the Department of Commerce. Shreeraaga H and the team rendered prayer, and Devika M, II M.Com. compered the program.
