St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.
The Quality Assurance Framework of the institution has been developed to assure academic standards and enhance the quality of education. It underlines the institution’s commitment to excellence and improvement.

P.G. and U.G. Department of Physics of St Philomena College had organized a sky watch programme, on 9th December 2021.
The participants had the opportunity to see the Moon, Venus, Saturn and Jupiter all lie on a single line, which is seen once in 19 months. Dr A.P. Radhakrishna welcomed the dignitaries and participants and gave a brief information about the event. The telescope was arranged by the department of Physics to observe the event.
The programme was supported by “St Philomena Armature Astronomers Club (SPAAC)”. School and college students, public in and around of Puttur were present for the programme. The students and teachers from various educational institutions were also present.
Rev Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Dr. E Deepak D`Silva and other staff members of UG and PG were present during the event. About 150 people were present to witnessed the programme.
