St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.
The Quality Assurance Framework of the institution has been developed to assure academic standards and enhance the quality of education. It underlines the institution’s commitment to excellence and improvement.

Puttur Nov 18: Humanities Association, Innovation Council and Internal Quality Assurance Cell of St Philomena College jointly organized National Education Day at the PG Seminar Hall of the College . Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro presided over the programme .In his presidential speech he said “ We do not become educated just because we are literates having a long list of degrees with us. Holistic development of every individual should be the goal of education. Then, it will be apt for every teacher and student to celebrate everyday as an Education Day”.
Chief guest Dr H Madhava Bhat, former Principal, Vivekananda College Puttur and currently adjunct professor at SDM College Ujire , said ,”human resource is the richest source of wealth. Human beings only have the privilege to transfer the knowledge acquired to the future generation. There is knowledge across the humanity as it is not the privilege of a few. It is at the fingertip of everyone. As the basis of knowledge is the unquenching desire to learn, one should indulge in sharing knowledge through education which leads towards success”.
Hithashree and Bhagyashree rendered prayer. Innovation Council Chairman Mrs Geethapoornima welcomed. Dean of Dept of Humanities Prof Subair proposed vote of thanks. Vinya Rai compered the programme.
