Watching the Partial Solar Eclipse through the Telescope

Puttur: Department of Physics (PG and UG) in association with St.Philomena Amateur Astronomy Club (SPAAC) has organized a program to watch the partial Solar eclipse that occurred on October 25th.

Department of Physics and SPAAC have been regularly organizing a number of programs such as star gazing,  lectures, webinars, and workshops to promote Science and Astronomy and reach the general public.  Solar  Eclipse is a celestial event where the moon comes between the Sun and the Earth so that the shadow of the moon falls on the Earth. People in the shadow region will then observe the Solar Eclipse – either fully or partially depending on the alignment of the Sun, Moon, and the Earth. If they are not collinear, then the solar eclipse occurs partially.  One should not observe the eclipse with the naked eye since the bright sunlight may damage the eye permanently. Using solar filters or sun glass the eclipse can be viewed.  SPAAC has arranged the Astronomical Telescope fitted with the Solar filter and also the specially designed Sun Glass to watch the celestial spectacle.

Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, the Principal of the College, Rev.Fr Ashok Rayan, the Principal of St.Philomena PU College, Rev.Fr Stany Pinto, the Campus Director and a good number of students and teachers gathered and watched the partial solar eclipse occurred after 5 pm on 25th October.

Dr AP Radhakrishna, the Vice Principal and the Coordinator of SPAAC have arranged the program with the help of Mr. Vipin Nayak and Mr. Abhishek Suvarna, and other members.
