St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.
The Quality Assurance Framework of the institution has been developed to assure academic standards and enhance the quality of education. It underlines the institution’s commitment to excellence and improvement.

Inauguration of the Students’ Council of St Philomena College was held on 26 October 2023 at Silver Jubilee Memorial Hall of the college.
Very Rev. Fr Lawrence Mascarenhas, Correspondent of the College presided over the function. In his presidential address, he emphasized the qualities of a good leader, highlighting the importance of selflessness, responsibility, and service to society.
Chief guest Dr Raghavendra A., Former Principal of Poorna Prajna College, Udupi, inaugurated the Students’ Council by lighting the lamp. In the inaugural address he said that the expectations of all members of the student community of the college rests on student leaders. Student union is the voice of students. He stressed the role of student leaders and the need to embrace opportunities to develop leadership qualities in today’s education system.
Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro administered the oath to the members of the Students’ Council.
Rev. Fr Stany Pinto Campus Director, St Philomena College participated as guest of honour. He emphasized the role of virtues in the student life and motivated leaders to use leadership qualities by imparting selfless service.
Mr Jerald D costa, Vice-president, Mai De Deus Parish Pastoral Council participated as guest of honour. Mr John Cutino, member of the Management Committee was present on the occasion.
Mr Ksrishna Prasad Alva president of Parent Teacher Association and Mr Thejaswi Bhat, Secretary of Alumni Association of the College felicitated the members of the Students’ Council.
Students of Performing Arts rendered prayer, Vipin H. G, President of the Students’ Council welcomed. K. Samruddhi Shenoy, Secretary introduced the guest, and Farvez Akhtar IIIBCA extended floral welcome, Raksha P.B, Joint Secretary of the Council proposed vote of thanks and the program was compered by Brindha IIIBCA. Student Welfare Officers Dr Chandrashekhar K and Mrs Rajeshwari were present on the dais.
