St Philomena College(Autonomous) was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.

St. Philomena College: Blood Donation Camp
Puttur: The blood donation camp was held at St.Philomena College, Puttur. The camp was organized by the Youth Red Cross, NSS, NCC, Rovers, and Rangers unit of the College in association with the Puttur Chapter of the Indian Red Cross unit and the blood bank unit of KMC, Mangalore.
Blood donation is one of the most valuable donations. One can donate blood if one is healthy and fit. By the blood donation, one can actually survive the person met in the accident or the need for surgery due to ailments. The amount of the blood donated will be replenished within two months, said Dr.Ranjeetha Rao, physician, KMC, Mangalore. She was the resource person and explained the various measures to follow during blood donation.
“The blood donation is the most valuable donation, and no grant can match with this donation. Blood represents equality. There may be different groups of blood such as A, B, etc. However, when the fellow receives the blood, the blood is important, not the person who has donated the blood. There is no difference on the basis of caste, creed,gender, and religion. Suppose we learn the real message from the spirit of blood donation. In that case, that will help bring harmony in society, said the Principal of the College, Rev. Dr. Antony Prakash Monteiro, whopresided over the function.
Bhagyashree and troupe rendered prayer, Prof. Vasudeva N, the Director of the NSS units of the College, welcomed. Dr. Malini, the Coordinator of the Youth Red Cross Unit of the College, proposed vote of thanks. Ms.Hashni Singh compered.

Johnson David Sequiera, Mrs..Pushpa, the coordinator of NSS units, Mr.Dhanya PT and Ms Shree Raksha - coordinators of Rovers and Rangers, and Rtn. Oscar Ananda were present and made the necessary arrangement to conduct the camp peacefully.
More than two hundred students across the different subject streams donated the blood and showed that in the needy hour, we will come forward to donate the blood.”
The blood bank of KMC complemented the selfless service of the young students and their love and concern towards the society as blood donors and handed the Certificate of appreciation to the College.
