The department of Zoology was established in 1968. Department of zoology is serving for the student community especially in the context of changed scenario to quench the thirst of the aspiring students with the latest information’s in the field of science.

Personal care and concern to the individual is the hallmark of the department. It is place where people are believed in honored and cared for where individual contributions accomplishments are appreciated: where everyone is treated fairly. We help one another and work together with enthusiasm and generosity to create scientific aptitude and the right attitude among the BZC students and to make them fit in the society.

 At present the Zoology department of the college comprising of 2 teaching staff. Viz, Nagaraju M, H.O.D and Shreeraksha B V and a non-teaching staff, Walter Luice. The department is running smoothly with several activities conducted every year for the benefit of the students and public.

Since 1968’s the department has grown up, the infrastructure has improved and the department has acquired some long-term strengths. A number of instrument and facilities have been added up over the years. Presently the department has a spacious laboratory for the conduction for practical classes, a museum having a sound collection of various specimens, models, preserved materials and charts, which are instrumental in bringing the student to the vicinity of reality.

 Over the years the department has brought out a number of outstanding brilliant students, who are now placed and shining in various fields including medicine, research etc., all over the world.

 The department monitors the overall performance of students through regular assessments such as tests, examinations, assignments and seminars, Science models, project works etc. The recent developments, investigations research works and also interesting articles related to the field of biological sciences are being displayed in the wall board magazine Bio-diversity regularly.

Objectives:

The primary objective of the department is to impart quality education in the subject of Zoology as a basic science and its applied branches to the students.

The Department is having the following objectives:

•   To provide quality education.

•     To enable the students to understand the interdisciplinary nature of Zoology in the web of life and the interactions of animals from an ecological, evolutionary and economic perspective.

•     To provide good knowledge of major themes in modern Zoology in order to prepare them for higher studies in different disciplines of Zoology

•     To inculcate the value based education and entrepreneurial skills among the students.

•     To Inculcate the spirit of resource conservation and love for nature

•     To conduct field studies and different projects of local and global interests.

•     To provides opportunities for professional and personal development through curricular and co- curricular activities.

•     Provide consultancy and organize extension activities.

The department has made constant efforts to integrate the goals and objectives of the institution into the curriculum by conducting various seminars and workshops and by inviting eminent resource persons and experts to enlighten the staff and students in their respective subjects.
