A 40-hour certificate course in Yakshagana titled “Yakshamruta” was officially inaugurated at St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur. The initiative is a collaborative effort between the Yaksha Kala Kendra of the college and the Deshabhakta N.S. Kille Pratishthana.

 Organized under the auspices of the Yaksha Kala Kendra which aims to study, preserve, and promote Indian classical and folk art forms ,the “Yakshamruta” course is designed to train students into professional Yakshagana performers. The program blends classroom instruction with hands-on training, culminating in both written and practical examinations before awarding certificates and organizing final performances.

Inaugurating the course for the 2026–27 academic year, Vasudeva Aithal Panambur, Chief Convener of Yakshadhruva Yakshashikshana, highlighted the academic depth and expansive potential of Yakshagana as a performing art, using illustrative examples to inspire the audience.

 Presiding over the function, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of St Philomena College, urged students to cultivate creativity and artistic expression. Expressing concern over modern trends, Dr Monteiro noted that in today's digital age, genuine creativity and appreciation for traditional arts are diminishing among youth. He commended the Yaksha Kala Kendra for its dedicated efforts in spreading awareness and keeping indigenous art alive, calling on students and faculty to support its cause.

The event commenced with a prayer by student Sannidhi Rai. Prashanth Rai, Convener of the Yaksha Kala Kendra, extended a warm welcome to the gathering, while Suraksha Rai, Coordinator of the Yakshamruta program, delivered the vote of thanks. Enrolled students and faculty members attended the ceremony.
