St Philomena College(Autonomous) was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.
The Quality Assurance Framework of the institution has been developed to assure academic standards and enhance the quality of education. It underlines the institution’s commitment to excellence and improvement.

The St Philomena College Alumni Association conducted its Annual General Meeting in the Spandana Seminar Hall on 17 May 2024. Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of Philomena College, praised the senior students, describing them as the backbone of the institution, essential to its growth and ongoing transformation into an autonomous college. He highlighted the successful creation of a network that connects approximately three thousand alumni, emphasizing the collective effort for further development: “Let us join hands for the development of the college, as if we are yours and you are ours, “he added.
At the same event, Rev. Fr Ashok Rayan Crasta, Principal of St. Philomena Pre-University College, appreciated the leadership of Mr A.J. Rai, the outgoing President of the Senior Students Association, for fostering strong relationships within the community. The gathering also welcomed Smt Pratima Hegde, the new president of the association. A.J. Rai, along with Treasurer Abhishek Suvarna and Secretary Tejaswi Bhat, conducted the official proceedings, including financial disclosures and annual reports, followed by a vote of thanks.
The meeting was well-attended, with dignitaries such as retired DYSP Jagannath Rai Nulialu, a distinguished alumnus from the first batch of the college. In his address, A.J. Rai articulated a vision for the future, urging more alumni to engage with the association, given the elevated status college in the society and its recent achievement of the ISO 9001:2015 accreditation. “Philomena College should soon become an autonomous institution and, also hopefully, will soon be recognized as a Deemed University,” Rai stated, underscoring the widespread acclaim and aspirational goals of the college.
