An oath-taking ceremony was held at the Postgraduate Seminar Hall of St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur on Thursday, as part of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The event was organised under the national campaign ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan’ to raise awareness among students about the dangers of substance abuse and illegal drug trafficking.
The principal of the college, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, administered the oath to the assembled students and faculty. In his message, Dr Monteiro remarked, “It is unfortunate that many fall prey to various addictions that disrupt the peace and purpose of life. Students must strive to lead meaningful lives without becoming enslaved to intoxicants.” He further stated, “Addiction is a dangerous path that ruins not only the individual but also their family and society at large. The true spirit of a ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ lies in nurturing intelligence, ethics, and discipline among the youth.”
Vice Principal Dr Vijay Kumar Moleyar extended his support to the cause and emphasized the role of academic institutions in shaping a drug-free generation.
Faculty members and coordinators from various postgraduate departments actively participated in the oath-taking ceremony. Harshith R., Coordinator of the Postgraduate Department of Commerce, welcomed the gathering.
