St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

The Postgraduate Department of Mathematics at St Philomena College (Autonomous) marked National Mathematics Day with a special program honouring the birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan, India’s legendary mathematician. Titled “Infinity and Insight: Ramanujan’s Story,” the guest lecture aimed to ignite students’ passion for mathematics by spotlighting the extraordinary life and contributions of Ramanujan.
Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of the college, presided over the event. In his presidential address, he urged students to explore interests and talents beyond rote academics, fostering a holistic approach to personal growth.
Dr Karthik K, Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Government First Grade College (GFGC), Uppinangady, served as the resource person. He delivered a compelling talk emphasizing that every individual harbors unique inner abilities and talents, which can thrive when discovered and nurtured. His insights left the audience motivated and reflective.
Prof. Ganesh Bhat K, Coordinator of the PG Department of Mathematics, presemted an introductory address tracing Ramanujan’s life and groundbreaking mathematical achievements.
The program opened with an invocation by Souparnika and her team. Dignitaries then paid floral tribute to Ramanujan’s portrait, honouring his legacy in the field.
Ms Anupama T, a II M.Sc. compered. Ms. Safreena S, also from II M.Sc. Mathematics welcomed. Ms. Ganyashree proposed the vote of thanks.
