St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

The certificate distribution ceremony for the “Yakshamrutha” 2025-26 Yakshagana Performance Art Certificate Course was held recently at the Spandana Auditorium of St Philomena College (Autonomous) .
The programme was jointly organised by the college, the Yakshakala Kendra, and the Deshabhakta N.S. Kille Prathishtana, Kedambady.
A total of 30 students successfully completed 40 hours of free training in Yakshagana dance, interpretation (Arthagarike), and stage performance. The students also excelled in both practical and written examinations conducted as part of the course.
College Principal Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Montero distributed the certificates to the students. Speaking on the occasion, he said that involvement in Yakshagana and other classical art forms helps inculcate discipline and ideal values among students. He described Yakshagana as an internationally recognised art form and stated that the institution has been conducting the “Yakshamrutha” programme sincerely, without seeking publicity. He urged students to make the best use of the opportunities offered through the initiative.
Director of the Yaksha Kala Kendra, Prashanth Rai, delivered the introductory address. He said that the Yakshamrutha students had demonstrated commendable performance while also achieving personality development and overall growth through the training programme.
He further announced that Chende Mela classes would also be introduced in the coming academic year and appealed to more students to enrol in the programme.
Shraddha Bhat rendered the prayer, while Yakshamrutha Coordinator Suraksha Rai proposed the vote of thanks and Shrividya compered the programme.
