St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

The Department of Computer Science of St. Philomena College, in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), celebrated Technology Day at the college’s Silver Jubilee Hall, highlighting the importance of innovation, responsible technology use, and student-led technological advancements.
Presiding over the programme, Rev. Dr. Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of St. Philomena College, emphasized that technology attains true significance only when it contributes to the development and well-being of society. He noted that innovation is not merely about creating new machines but also about making meaningful contributions that benefit the community. Expressing appreciation for the students’ efforts, he said it was encouraging to see them demonstrating modern technologies with curiosity and creativity. He further urged the younger generation to use technology responsibly while upholding ethical values and humanity in shaping the future.
The chief guest, Dr. Vijayakumar M., Vice Principal of the College, called upon students to preserve human values while embracing and learning modern technologies in today’s digital era. He stressed the importance of balancing technological advancement with ethical responsibility.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Vinayachandra, Dean of the Department of Computer Science, highlighted the significance of Technology Day and encouraged students to adopt technology with a spirit of innovation and accountability. He advised students not to limit themselves to theoretical learning but to focus on developing practical solutions that can benefit society. He urged them to strive to become future innovators and responsible technology leaders. Dr Vinayachandra also lauded the enthusiasm displayed by students in presenting contemporary technological concepts.
As part of the programme, Yusuf Ali Saleel, a third-year BCA (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning) student, presented a model of a solar-powered cold storage system developed using the Internet of Things (IoT) and explained its features and applications.
Third-year BCA students Surabhi C. and Diya delivered a presentation on models and applications developed using Virtual Reality (VR) technology. The student projects were guided by lecturers Soumya and Jayashree H.
The event commenced with a prayer led by Madhura and her team. Shahanaz K., a second-year BCA (AI & ML) student, welcomed the gathering, while Anisha, a second-year BCA (AI & ML) student, proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was compered by Sheetal, also a second-year BCA (AI & ML) student.
Dr Geetha Poornima K., Coordinator of the College’s Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) Unit, was present on the dais.
