College Commemorates National Sports Day

Puttur, August 29, 2025: The air buzzed with energy at the college quadrangle as students and staff gathered to celebrate National Sports Day.

The  highlight of the day was the felicitation to the remarkable sports achievers of the College. Dr Elias Pinto, the Physical Education Director, proudly led the ceremony, honouring students for their outstanding performances.

The shining stars who were celebrated are;

Nikhil (I BBA) gold medal winner in Yogasana.

Nandan (I BSc) standout in Swimming, excelling in both 3-meter and 6-meter board diving.

Varsha (III BCA) securing a silver medal in the Hammer Throw at the State Amateur Athletic Meet in Udupi.

Pruthvi (I BCom) earning a bronze medal in the Hammer Throw at the State-level Amateur Athletic Meet.

In addition to the felicitation, the college hosted a lively cross-country race for both male and female students, promoting active participation and healthy competition.

The Principal, Rev. Dr Anthony Prakash Monteiro, delivered a powerful and inspiring message. He urged students to embrace the core values of sports, emphasizing the importance of discipline and focus in all aspects of life. “To succeed,” he stated, “one must possess the discipline of a Dhyan Chand.” He spoke of the hockey legend’s unwavering dedication, noting that it was this commitment that elevated him from a sportsman to a national icon. The principal’s words served as a powerful reminder that true success is built on a foundation of discipline, and he urged students to appreciate Dhyan Chand for his unparalleled contribution to Indian sports.

The event was graced by the presence of Vice Principal Dr Vijay Kumar M, Registrar of Academics Dr Norbert Mascarenhas, Registrar of Examinations Dr Vinaychandra, and IQAC Coordinator Dr Edwin D’Souza.

The program commenced with an invocation led by students from the performing arts. Dr Radhakrishna Gowda, the Student Welfare Officer, extended a warm welcome to all in attendance, highlighting the significance of the occasion.

The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Student Welfare Officer Mrs Spearl Fiona Pereira, followed by the national anthem, bringing the day’s celebrations to a dignified close.
