St Philomena College(Autonomous) was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of St Philomena Autonomous College, Puttur, has been honoured with the prestigious Taluk-Level Best NSS Unit Award for the year 2025. The recognition was conferred by the Puttur Taluk Youth Federation in collaboration with the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports.
The award was presented during the Swami Vivekananda Jayanti and Taluk Youth Awards - 2025 program, organized at Asmi Comfort, Puttur. The event was jointly hosted by the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, Puttur, Rotary Club Puttur Central, and the Puttur Taluk Youth Federation (Regd.).
Dr Vijayakumar M., Vice Principal of the College, NSS Program Officers Mr Vasudeva K. and Mrs Pushpa and Dr Chandrashekhar, received the award on behalf of the college. They were accompanied by student leaders of the NSS Units of the College.
The award was presented by Mr Panjigudde Eshwar Bhat, President of the Shri Mahalingeshwara Temple Management Committee, Puttur, in a dignified ceremony attended by prominent personalities and student representatives.
Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of the College congratulated the NSS Program officers and the NSS Volunteers on this occasion for their commendable service towards the College and society at large.
