St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

The Department of Commerce at St. Philomena College, Puttur, organized the inauguration of the Commerce Association for the academic year 2025-26, along with a special orientation session on Chartered Accountancy (CA) on Wednesday, 13th August 2025, in the college.
The event was formally inaugurated by the chief guest, CA Jaganath Kamath, a renowned Chartered Accountant and accomplished professional in the field of finance and taxation.
In his inaugural address, CA Jaganath Kamath highlighted the growing relevance of the commerce field in today’s dynamic economic environment. He motivated students to consider Chartered Accountancy as a rewarding and challenging career path. Through his orientation session, he provided valuable insights into the CA course structure, preparation strategies, and career opportunities available for aspiring chartered accountants.
Presiding over the programme, Dr Vijay Kumar M, Vice - Principal of St. Philomena College, commended the Department of Commerce for organizing such a meaningful event. In his presidential address, he encouraged students to actively engage with the association’s initiatives and make informed decisions about their professional future.
The Convenor of Commerce Association Mrs Spearl Fiona Pereira, welcomed the gathering and introduced the objectives of the Commerce Association for the year. The newly elected office bearers of the association were also introduced and felicitated during the event.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Roshan Menezes. The event was attended by a large number of commerce students and faculty members, marking a promising start to the department's academic calendar.
