St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

The Consumer Club of St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur brought pride to the institution by securing prestigious honours at the District-Level Annual Performance Appraisal and Prize Distribution Programme organized by the District Federation of Consumer Organizations (R), Dakshina Kannada, Mangalore on 23 May 2026 at SDM College of Business Management Auditorium, Mangalore.
The Consumer Club of St Philomena College was adjudged as the “Best Consumer Club in the District” for the academic year 2025–26 in recognition of its outstanding performance, active consumer awareness programmes, outreach activities, educational visits, and community engagement initiatives conducted throughout the year.
Adding to the achievement, Mr Praveen D, Coordinator of the Consumer Club, St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur, received the “Best Co-ordinator” award for his dedicated efforts in organizing impactful consumer awareness programmes, educational activities, practical training sessions, and community outreach initiatives among students and the public.
Further adding to the glory of the institution, Ms Safreena of III B.Com secured the Second Prize in the Best Performing Student category in the annual assessment conducted by the District Federation of Consumer Organizations.
The programme was organized under the guidance of the District Federation of Consumer Organizations (R), Dakshina Kannada, in association with the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs. Various colleges and consumer clubs from across the district participated in the event.
