St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

Nandan Naik of I B.Sc., a rising star from St Philomena Autonomous College, Puttur, is making waves in the world of competitive diving. The young athlete showcased his prowess at the Junior /sub junior State Diving Championship held in Bengaluru from 26 July to 28 July 2025 bringing home a gold medal in the 3-meter springboard and a silver medal in platform diving. His remarkable performance earned him a coveted spot at the National Diving Competition.
At the National Diving Competition, Nandan continued his impressive run, securing a commendable fourth place. His achievements didn’t stop there. He also competed in the newly introduced National-level Senior Platform Synchronized Diving Competition along with Aaryn Moses Vyas in Ahmedabad, Gujarat at the 78th Senior Aquatics National Championship. Despite being a newcomer to the senior circuit, Nandan again demonstrated his skill and composure by finishing in fourth place. These achievements speak loud about Nandan’s dedication and potential, marking him as a promising talent to watch in the world of Indian diving. The principal of the college Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro congratulated him on his achievements.
