St Philomena College(Autonomous) was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.
The Quality Assurance Framework of the institution has been developed to assure academic standards and enhance the quality of education. It underlines the institution’s commitment to excellence and improvement.

Mr John Lobo, retired First Division Library Assistant at St Philomena College,Puttur donated 14 wooden chairs worth Rs 90,000 on March 28th to the College Central Library where he extended 36 dedicated and fruitful years of service. In an informal thanksgiving occasion Rev.Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of the College appreciated the noble attitude of Mr John Lobo saying that, “selflessness, as the virtue of giving without expecting anything in return helps us to connect with fellow beings as it is rewarding in itself. It is not a desire to be noticed but to act from our heart and soul”. Rev. Fr Stany Pinto, Campus Director wished the donor all well by acknowledging his generosity and love for the College as well. Mr Abdul Rahiman, Librarian, compered the programme. Library Advisory Committee member Mrs Premalatha,Dean of Commerce welcomed and proposed vote of thanks. Library faculty members,Library Advisory Committee Members and the students were gracefully present in the programme.
