St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

St. Philomena Autonomous College, Puttur, hosted a programme titled ‘Empower Women, Transform Lives’ at the Silver Jubilee Memorial Hall, jointly organised by the Women Empowerment Cell and Anti-Women Harassment Cell of the College. The event sought to cultivate a spirit of empowerment and self-reliance among young women.The chief guest, Mrs Shakuntala T. Shetty, former Member of Legislative Assembly, addressed the gathering and called upon women to face adversities with fortitude. Drawing on historical figures such as Veer Maatha Onake Obavva, Mrs Shetty advocated for fearlessness, perseverance in education, and resolute self-expression. “Women should stand tall in society, resist indolence, and continue their pursuit of knowledge,” she remarked.Presiding over the function, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of St Philomena College, urged the students to manifest their strengths in both words and actions. Emphasising diligence and self-advancement, he said, “Women must be industrious, maintain integrity in their work and personal life, and actively display their creativity and capabilities. Numerous opportunities await those who are prepared to seize them.”Mrs Premalatha K, Coordinator of the Women Empowerment Cell, and Mrs Noveline N. D’Souza, Coordinator of the Anti-Women Harassment Cell, along with college PRO Mrs Bharthi S. Rai, faculty, and women students were present on the occasion.
