St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

Farewell to Prof. Dinaka Rao on superannuation
Puttur : "Teaching profession is the noblest profession. Teachers who serve with sincerity will bring fame and credit to the profession. They teach students and mold them. Teachers should not try to please the students by less teaching and giving more marks. Students may now appreciate it, but in the long run, they understand that value lies with those strict teachers. They actually aspired for their betterment rather than pleasing. Prof. Dinakara Rao is one such teacher who dedicated fully for the profession with the highest integrity and discipline" said Rev.Fr.Lawrence Mascarenhas, the correspondent of St.Philomena College, Puttur. He was presiding the farewell function to Prof. Dinakara Rao, HOD of Economics and the vice Principal of St.Philomena College, Puttur, who superannuated on March 31.
Rev. Fr. Antony Prakash Monteiro, the Principal of the College, on felicitating Prof.Dinaka Rao, said Prof. Rao had given yeoman service to St.Philomena College. As a Director of the Suraksha Consumer forum, he trained a large number of students, and the forum bagged first place consecutively, which only speaks of the untiring effort put in by him. He is the epitome of dedication to the teaching profession and sets the highest standard.
Receiving the felicitations, Prof.Dinakara Rao recalled his long journey in the teaching profession, which began almost thirty-seven years ago. He narrated the initial days of his teaching career and the hardship he faced. Students are the best judges of teachers. We, the teachers, should be careful in our deeds and action, said Prof.Dinalara Rao.
On this occasion, the College's annual magazine "Philoprabha" was released. Prof.Vinayachandra, the editor of the magazine, highlighted the magazine's contents and thanked the members of the Editorial Committee.
Prof.Udaya, Dean of Science, Campus Director Rev.Fr Stani Pinto, Staff secretary Prof.Ganesh Bhat were present.
