St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur organized an faculty development program for its faculty on the theme of ‘Mindful Educator.’ The program was held at the postgraduate seminar hall of the College and was conducted by the Staff Development and Appraisal Cell.
Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monterio, the college principal, presided over the event. He spoke about the importance of teachers engaging in diverse discussions, learning new things, and understanding their true selves. He also mentioned that small problems can seem large to people who are troubled, and the ‘Mindful Educator’ program helps them overcome stresses in life.
Mrs Preethi Shenoy, a counselling psychologist, participated as a resource person. She shared information on what stress is, ways to reduce daily stress, and how to manage time effectively.
The program began with a prayer by Shivani Mallya N, assistant professor in the Department of Zoology. Dr Edwin S. D'Souza, the program coordinator, welcomed and Vinil Rohan D'Souza, an assistant professor in the Department of English, proposed the vote of thanks. The program was compered by Suraksha S, an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science.
Faculty from degree and postgraduate departments were present at the event.
