St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

The Students’ Council, Women Empowerment Cell and Anti Women Harassment Cell of St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur, jointly organized a guest lecture on “Violence against Women and Legal Remedies” on Wednesday, at SJM Hall.
The programme was presided over by Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of St Philomena College (A), Puttur. In his presidential address, he emphasized the importance of creating awareness among students about women’s rights and the need to stand against all forms of violence. The resource person for the session was Adv. Krishna Prasad Nadsar, Advocate, Puttur. He delivered an insightful lecture highlighting various forms of violence against women and the legal remedies available under Indian law. He explained laws relating to domestic violence, workplace harassment, and cybercrimes against women, encouraging students to be aware of their rights and legal support systems. The Vice Principal Dr Vijay Kumar M was graciously present on the occasion. The Students’ Council Directors Dr Radhakrishna Gowda and Mrs Spearl Fiona Pereira, along with the Convener of the Anti-Women Harassment Cell, Mrs Noveline N Dsouza, and the Co-Convener of the Women Empowerment Cell, Mrs Swathi Shetty, were also present. Likhitha introduced the guest, Srijana delivered the welcome address, and Sahana Priya proposed the vote of thanks. The invocation was led by Lanisha and Avani, while the programme was compered by Hiba Sheik.
