St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

St Philomena Autonomous College, Puttur inaugurated its NSS (National Service Scheme) annual activities, emphasizing the importance of community service and personal development for students on Wednesday. The event, held at the college, featured prominent speakers who urged students to become active agents of social change.
Dr Mahesh Kumar Shetty H, Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics and NSS Program Officer at SDM College, Ujire was the keynote speaker. He highlighted that NSS activities are not merely extracurricular but are crucial for personality development. He encouraged students to understand and actively participate in solving societal problems.
The event was presided over by Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of the college. In his address, he stated that “the greatest service is to serve humanity,” and he urged students to engage in selfless acts of service that come from the heart, rather than for show. He called on every individual to strive to better society through their contributions.
Dr Chandrashekar K, the NSS Program Officer, shared an inspiring message in his introductory speech, advising students to view failures as stepping stones to success. He encouraged them to face life’s challenges with courage and noted that participation in NSS activities helps develop leadership qualities.
The program began with a prayer by NSS volunteers Aparna and her team. Ms Pushpa N, another NSS Officer, welcomed the gathering, and G. Lavika delivered the vote of thanks. The event was hosted by Sushma Vagle K Y.
Vice Principal Dr Vijayakumar Moleyar, Registrar (Academics) Dr Norbert Mascarenhas, Public Relations Officer Ms Bharati S Rai, Student Welfare Officer Dr Radhakrishna Gowda V, Director of Yakshakala Kendra Mr Prashant Rai and Assistant Professor Mr Dhanya P T were present on the occasion.
The inauguration concluded with a vibrant cultural program presented by the students.
