Independence Day Celebration

The 77th Independence Day was celebrated at St Philomena College and St Philomena P.U. College Puttur, filled with patriotic gusto. The occasion was graced by the presence of esteemed principals, faculty members, and enthusiastic students.

At St Philomena College Quadrangle, the National flag was hoisted by St Philomena P.U. College Principal Rev. Fr Ashok Rayan Crasta. In his address, he emphasized the importance of taking pride in the rich cultural heritage India. He urged everyone to remember the sacrifices of the leaders of the nation in securing freedom from oppression and slavery. It is the bounden duty of every citizen to remember their contributions towards the betterment of the country.

Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of St. Philomena College, emphasized the significance of demonstrating love for the country through actions. He motivated students to focus on physical fitness and strength building, highlighting the role of a healthy body in nation-building.

Dr A.P. Radhakrishna, Vice Principal and Coordinator of IQAC, expressed gratitude for the struggles and sacrifices that led to the liberation of India from colonial rule. He urged everyone to remember the sacrifices of freedom fighters and commemorate Independence Day with a meaningful perspective.

The event featured various segments, including a march-past by NCC Cadets, Rovers-Rangers, NSS volunteers, and the Red Cross Unit, accompanied by the spirited band troop. The students of Fine Arts Association and Performing Arts Association presented captivating cultural performances, adding vibrancy to the celebration.

NCC Army Officer Lt. Johnson David Sequeira and NCC Navy Officer C/t Tejaswi Bhat, along with other officers, ensured disciplined proceedings. The parade was commanded by Sathvik D S, with JUO RIYA Sushmitha Dsouza and JUO Spandana leading the pilots. The Red Cross Unit, Fine Arts Association, and Performing Arts Association were efficiently led by various faculty members who coordinated the cultural programs.

The day’s celebrations truly paid homage to the struggle for independence, as students, faculty, and guests came together to honour the history and values of the nation. The event reflected the commitment of the St Philomena Institutions in nurturing a sense of patriotism and instilling the importance of active contributions to the progress of the nation.

Shawn Rebello led the band as the Band Leader. The NSS Officers, Mr Vasudev from the Department of Economics, and Mrs. Pushpalatha from the Department of Commerce, Mr Sharath Alva from the Department of History, Mrs Poornima D.S. from the Department of Statistics, and Mr Chandraksha from the Department of Computer Science ,Mrs Jyothi M and Mr Rajesh Moolya, Mrs. Ashwini K from the Department of Chemistry, Mrs Rashmi from the Department of Physics, Mr. Rahul from the Department of Commerce, and Ms Vanya from the Department of Chemistry, Ms. Joshila Menezes from the Department of Commerce and Mr Rama Naik from the Department of Kannada ,   Mr Prashanth Rai from the Department of Commerce, Mrs Rajeshwari from the Department of Computer Science, and Mrs Pooja  Rai from the Department of Physics with their cohesive team work  ensured that all aspects of the event, from the cultural performances to the march-past, were well-organized and executed.
