St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

Channelizing the potential of youth for transformation of society – Rev.Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro
Puttur : Youth Red Cross unit was inaugurated recently at St.Philomena College, Puttur by Mrs.Nancy Lavina Pinto, Assistant Professor of Social Work.
“Red cross is a voluntary organization which always come forward to help the people in distress during the natural calamities. It was established in 1863 at Jeneva, Swtzarlend and soon across the globe its branches were opened to help the society. Indian Red Cross Society is its subsidiary and has been doing yeomen work and in forefront by activities. Its one of the wing is Youth Red Cross unit, which inculcate the good values in young generation in school and Colleges” said Mrs.Nancy Lavina Pinto. She also enumerated the vison and mission of Red Cross and how best the unit can conduct various program in the College.
Rev.Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of the College, presided the function and said “ Youth are the backbone of a society and a country. Their immense energy and creativity should be utilized for the good cause. Channelizing their potential will bring transformation of society. Participating in the various activities of Red Cross will inculcate the humane values. It is the most appropriate time for students to participate in such activities, instead of spending their time in mobile phone, chatting and other trivial things”
Dr Malini, Associate Professor of Chemistry and the Coordinator of the Youth Red Cross unit welcomed. Vinaya Rai, the student member spoke on the value of Blood donation. Mr.NileshJoy Daias the sub coordinator of Youth Red Cross Unit was present on the occasion.
Students Hashni, Prajnya, Anvitha and Shreya rendered prayer. DivinaD’Souza proposed vote of thanks. Hashni Singh Compered the program.
