The Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) and the Postgraduate Department of Commerce of St. Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur, jointly organized Institution’s Innovation Day at the Spandana Seminar Hall. The event was held to mark the spirit of creativity and innovation among students and to honour the vision of the late Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, whose birthday is commemorated as Innovation Day across institutions in India.
Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of the College presided over the programme. Mr Krishnananda Nayak, an accomplished alumnus of the college and a young entrepreneur, graced the occasion as the chief guest. The event commenced with a floral tribute to the portrait of Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
In his presidential address, Rev. Dr Monteiro remarked, “Whenever we speak of innovation, the name that shines instantly in our hearts is Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam , the People’s President and the Missile Man of India. His life continues to inspire generations. Dr Kalam embodied curiosity, creativity, and a strong sense of duty. His personality, discipline, and vision remain exemplary. He always believed that the youth are the true wealth of the nation and that every student must not merely be a consumer of ideas, but a creator of them. To achieve success, we must cast away fear and move forward with courage.”
Addressing the gathering, Mr Krishnananda Nayak shared his insights on innovation and entrepreneurship. He stated, “Innovation begins with a mindset. In today’s world, research and innovation are not optional but essential. Every individual has a researcher within, waiting to emerge. With the right opportunities and guidance, anyone can become a successful entrepreneur. Fear, failure, and frustration are the three enemies of innovation. Once we overcome them, success becomes inevitable.”
Following the formal session, Mr Nayak delivered an engaging lecture on entrepreneurship, illustrating his ideas through several real-life examples of successful ventures. He motivated students to cultivate creativity, take risks, and approach problems with innovative thinking.
