St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

The International Women’s Day celebration was organized at the Silver Jubilee Hall of St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur under the joint aegis of the Women Empowerment Cell and the Anti-Women Harassment Cell.
The programme featured Joselin Fernandes, Excise Inspector of the Puttur Sub-Division, as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, she urged women to rise, stay aware, and always support one another. She advised women never to feel jealous of others but instead guide and encourage each other. Emphasizing the importance of independence, she said women should always strive to be financially self-reliant, remain focused on their goals, and avoid dependence on others. She also stressed the importance of maintaining strong moral values and upholding ethical standards in life.
Presiding over the programme, the Principal of the college, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, addressed the students and highlighted the importance of mutual respect between men and women. He remarked that neither men nor women can exist without each other and emphasized the need to respect both. He encouraged students not to be lazy or selfish but to remain disciplined and hardworking. According to him, whether a man or a woman, a hardworking person will never remain poor in life. Laziness, he said, prevents progress, while discipline is one of the strongest principles that helps individuals grow stronger and succeed.
Also present on the dais were Mrs Premlatha K, Coordinator of the Women Empowerment Cell, and Mrs Novlin N D'Souza, Coordinator of the Anti-Women Harassment Cell.
On the occasion, prizes were distributed to the winners of competitions conducted as part of the Women’s Day celebrations. Farahat Mushreen, a first-year B.Com student, introduced the chief guest. The programme began with a prayer rendered by Apoorva and team from II B.Com. Hiba Sheikh of III B.Sc welcomed the gathering, while Shaman Banu of I B.Com delivered the vote of thanks.
The formal programme was compered by Priya of II BBA. Cultural programmes were presented by women students, with the cultural segment compered by Kaneez of III BA.
The celebration highlighted the importance of women’s empowerment, ethical values, discipline, and mutual respect, while also providing a platform for students to showcase their talents through cultural activities.
