St Philomena College(Autonomous) was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

St Philomena College, in connection with Kannada Rajyothsava organized a Program on “Kannada Naadu Nudi Chinthane” at Spandana Seminar Hall under the auspices of Dept of Kannada, Kannada Sangha, Yaksha Kala Kendra and IQAC. Dr Basthyam Pais, Assistant Professor in Kannada participated as chief guest and said “Being Kannadigas we should have conviction to respect Kannada Language and Literature and we should be proud to accept the goodness of literature. We should work in the direction of retaining the sanctity of Kannada literature and at the same time we should have love for other languages too. It is the responsibility of every Kannadiga to work for the growth of Kannada literature”.
Prof. Ganesh Bhat who presided over the program in his presidential remarks remembered the contributions towards Kannada Literature by the Poets and Authors who hail from Costal Karnataka. He called for the students to contribute to Kannada Literature though they are in this Digital Era. Dr Vijayakumar M, HoD, Kannada gave introductory remarks, Sudarshan welcomed and Hema proposed vote of thanks. Smitha S Rai compered the program. Students of performing arts rendered popular Kannada Songs on this occasion. Prashanth Rai, Assistant Professor, Dept of BBA was present on the dais.
