St Philomena College(Autonomous) was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

Department Kannada, Kannada Sangha, and IQAC of St Philomena College Puttur, jointly organized an event titled ‘Kavana Rachana Kammata’ in the PG Seminar Hall of the college.
The resource person for the event, an Assistant Teacher from Sudana Residential School, Puttur, emphasized that poetry is a medium that is easily comprehensible and has the power to captivate people. She highlighted the significance of discipline, concentration, and patience in the process of creating poetry and stated that creating poetry is a unique way of expressing the innermost feelings of the heart, rather than being an exercise of intelligence.
During the event, the Principal, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, shared his thoughts and stated that inspiration is the driving force behind all forms of art. He expressed concern that today’s students tend to be more agitated than inspired and stressed the importance of reading books as a means of finding inspiration.
Mr Umesh Nayak, the President of Kannada Sahitya Parishat in Puttur Taluk, also addressed the audience and extended his well wishes. Dr Vijaya Kumar Moleyar, the Head of the Kannada Department, extended a warm welcome. Dr Basthyam Pais, the Program Coordinator, proposed vote of thanks and student Shridevi N compered the program.
