Lecture series on Abbakka@500

Department of Humanities, St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur in association with Karnataka Rajya Mahavidyalaya Shikshak Sangha (KRMSS) affiliated with ABRSM organised “Abbakka @ 500”- Series of 100 Inspirational Lectures at Spandana Seminar Hall.

Program was inaugurated by Mrs Shakunthala Shetty, ex MLA, Puttur Constituency by lighting a lamp. On her inaugural address, she explained even though there was suppression of Women during the time of Abbakka, she did tremendous achievements in her life. All young girls of this 21st century should develop valour like Abbakka.

Resource Person of the day was Mr Annappa Shasthana, Lecturer in History, Vittal PU College, Vitla explained in detail about Abbakka from her birth to her death. She was the first woman freedom fighter, she was a queen of Ullala, who became an icon due to her courage.

In his Presidential remarks, Rev Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of the College, stressed the students to develop interest in our land, culture and language and should be patriotic like Abbakka. He said that greatest thing about learning history is not to repeat the mistakes. He suggested the girls to develop self-confidence like Abbakka.

Dr Norbert Mascarenhas, HoD, History and Dean of Humanities and Dr Pramod, organiser KRMSS Mangalore were present on stage. Lecturers of Humanities Department and of the College were present.

The program started with a welcome dance by Vishnupriya, I BA. Pavan, II .BA, delivered welcome address, Srishti Shenoy, I BA proposed Vote of thanks. The event was compered by Sanjana J Rao, III BA.
