St Philomena College(Autonomous) was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.
The Quality Assurance Framework of the institution has been developed to assure academic standards and enhance the quality of education. It underlines the institution’s commitment to excellence and improvement.

The Fresher’s Day was conducted by Second-year Postgraduate students with the association of PG Department of Physics, St. Philomena College on 08-02-2022 at PG Seminar Hall, St. Philomena College, Puttur.
On this occasion, the principal of the college Rev Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, was the president of the function. Dr A P Radhakrishna, H.O.D. of Physics and Dr E Deepak D Silva, Coordinator of P.G. Department of Physics, were present during the occasion. Also, the faculty members Dr Praveen Prakash D Souza P, Mr Vipin Naik N S, Ms Ashwitha S, Dr Ashith V K were present in the function. The function was begun at 9:30 am with the prayer sung by Ms Anagha R, Ms Pramitha D and Ms Sampreetha B. The second-year student Ms Radhika K R was the master of the ceremony. Ms Shubhalakshmi has welcomed guests, faculty members and students. The fresher’s day was inaugurated by the president by lighting the lamp.
In his Presidential speech, the Principal Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro advised the students to take up the practicality of physics in their everyday life.
He has happily shared his postgraduation life and memorized good moments. He advised the students to make their life fruitful one by inculcating good values and character. Also, he addressed the students that they should participate in extracurricular activities, which will enhance the talents in them.
Dr A P Radhakrishna, Head of the Physics Department, explained the meaning and importance of lighting the lamp before any event. He also described the significance of core subjects in Physics and encouraged the students by giving some fascinating examples of Physics discoveries. He said that students should adopt a scientific temper in their daily life.
Dr E Deepak D Silva told the significance of Fresher’s Day. He said that the students should embrace diligence and faith in the present and future life. In addition to this, he shared the essential moral behind the stories of Raja Bhagirath and Ekalavya. He said that students should cultivate selfless attitude and should set an example for others.
At last, the student Ms Bhavya D Souza gave the vote of thanks to all the present guests, faculty members and students.
