St Philomena College(Autonomous) was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

St Philomena College, PG Department of Physics, organized an Inter Collegiate Physics Fest-'Phoenix-2K22’ on August 12th, 2022. Very Rev. Fr Jerome Lawrence Mascarenhas, Correspondent, St Philomena College, Puttur, was the president of the function. The Rev. Dr. Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal, St Philomena College, Puttur, was the chief guest of the function. Prof. Uday K, Vice Principal, St Philomena College, Puttur, and Dr. A. P. Radhakrishna, H.O.D. of Physics, St Philomena College Puttur, Dr. E. Deepak D’Silva, Coordinator of P.G. Physics were the guests of honor. The Student President, Mr. Shrivaths B.S., and Secretary Ms. Kavyashree escorted the guests to the dais. The inaugural program began with the invocation of God’s blessing by Ms. Anagha R and the team. The president inaugurated the program by lighting the lamp.
The president of the program in his address said, "Science is beautiful. Science is helpful in leading a comfortable life" and also congratulated the Department for hosting the fest and appreciated the efforts taken by the students of P.G. Physics in materializing the event. He said these types of fests are helpful in creative thinking, the exchange of ideas, making friends, becoming social, and exhibiting talents.
The chief guest in his address said that students should be humble in their character and shouldn’t have overconfidence because it may prove to be a stumbling block in the successful journey of life.
There was a felicitation program for Ms. Pramitha A, who secured 1st rank in the Mangalore University examination (2019-20 batch), Ms. Thushara R. B., who secured 2nd rank in the Mangalore University examination (2019-20 batch), Ms. Sushmitha K, who secured 1st rank in the Mangalore University examination (2020-21 batch) and Ms. Savitha M.S., who cleared NET 2021 and GATE 2022. Dr. E. Deepak D’Silva, Coordinator of P.G. Physics introduced all the four achievers to the audience.
Mr. Shrivaths B.S. welcomed the guests and the gathering. Ms. Kavyashree B. rendered a vote of thanks, and Ms. Rachana N.R. hosted the program. The students conducted 6 competitions for the students of other colleges. They are Enotita, Quizzy-pops, Faciem Pictura, Grafikos, Seminario, and Mysterious.
Apart from St Philomena College, five other colleges participated in the events, namely: Ambika Mahavidyalaya, Bappalige; Vivekananda College, Nehru Nagar; St Annes Degree College, Virajpete; Government First Grade College, Sullia; and Govinda Das College, Surathkal.
In the valedictory function, Rev. Dr. Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal, St Philomena College, Puttur, was the president of the function. Rev. Fr Stany Pinto, Campus Director, St Philomena College, Puttur, was the chief guest of the function. Dr. A.P. Radhakrishna, H.O.D of Physics, St Philomena College, and Dr. Emmanuel Deepak D’Silva, Coordinator, Department of Physics (PG), St. Philomena College, Puttur were the guests of honor.
The president said that Physics is one of the boons not only to the scientific community but also to the common man. Today we can touch and feel the inventions of Physics all around us, without which life is unimaginable.
At the end of the program, one of the participants expressed his opinion about the fest. In the valedictory programme, the prizes for the winners were distributed. The Govinda Das College, Surathkal, emerged as runner-up and the Vivekananda College, Puttur, was the champion in the events.
Ms. Shubhalakshmi welcomed the guests and the gathering. Ms. Bhavya D Souza rendered a vote of thanks and the program was hosted by Ms. Radhika K.R.
