St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

Puttur 28 October: Founder’s day Sports Meet of Mai De Deus Educational Institutions was held on 28 October 2022 at the historical playground of St Philomena College, Puttur. Very Rev Fr Valerian D’Souza, former correspondent, Mai De Deus Educational Institutions was the Chief Guest. He inaugurated the sports meet by releasing the bunches of colorful balloons to the open sky. The sacred Torch which was kindled by the Correspondent Very Rev Fr Lawrence Mascarenhas at Mai De Deus Church was brought by National Sports Person Dilan Rai of III BCom to the college grounds soon after offering the floral tribute and garlanding the statue of the founder of the Institutions Msgr Antony Partao in the campus by the guests and the same torch was carried by Raksha Anchan, National-Level Athlete and was presented to the Chief Guest on the Dias. The guest raised the torch and acknowledged the same and returned the torch to Thrishul of II BA who is a National-level medal winner in Surf-Life Swimmer and the same was carried by him towards the SJM hall and was kept over the base to illumine the flame.
On the occasion, the Management took this opportunity to honour Very Rev. Fr Valerian D’Souza. In the inaugural address Rev Fr Valerian D Souza brought to memory the services of Msgr Antony Patrao towards the sacred cause of education in this rural region and it is the fruits of his service we are enjoying in the present. Acknowledging the success legacy of St Philomena Rev Fr, also wished the college to soon emerge as a Deemed University under the stewardship of Rev Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro.
Very Rev. Fr Lawrence Mascarenhas in his presidential remarks appreciated the efforts put up by the heads of all the Institutions which are under the auspices of Mai De Deus Church Puttur. He called for the students to live a life of unity to achieve the desired success in this competitive world. Rev Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, the Principal of St Philomena College Puttur, Rev. Fr Ashok Rayan Crasta, Principal St Philomena P U College, Rev Fr Stany Pinto, the Campus Director, St Philomena Institutions, Mourice Mascarenhas, Vice-President, Parish Pastoral Parishad, Mai De Deus Church, Puttur and Heads of the institutions, Office Bearers of PTA and Alumin Associations, Staff, Students and Parents participated and the Sports Meet emerged as a great success.
