St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with leading IT firm The Web People to enhance industry-oriented skills and professional competencies among students.
The agreement was formalised at a function held in the Conference Hall of the Postgraduate Department, presided over by Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Montero, Principal of the College.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Montero underscored the growing demand in the industrial sector for young professionals who can think logically, adapt swiftly, and collaborate effectively in teams. “Through this partnership, our students will gain exposure to industry projects, emerging technologies, operational frameworks, and professional standards. Moving beyond textbooks and classroom learning, direct engagement with industry experts, training sessions, internships, and hands-on experiences will significantly enhance students’ confidence, competence, and employability,” he said.
He emphasised that educational institutions today must transcend the role of mere degree-awarding bodies and instead become centres that build careers, shape talent, and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s digital workforce. He also lauded The Web People for recognising student potential and collaborating in nurturing future IT professionals.
Aditya Kalluraya, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of The Web People, speaking after signing the MoU, observed that rural students possess immense talent but often lack adequate opportunities and confidence in communication. “Such collaborations enable students to prepare for industry expectations during their academic years itself,” he noted. Sharing reflections from his own student days, he highlighted how institutional opportunities had instilled discipline, time management, and leadership qualities in him.
Sharath Srinivas, Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of the company, stressed the importance of skill development during student life to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
The programme commenced with a prayer by Rathan and team. Dr Vinayachandra, Dean of the Postgraduate Department of Computer Applications, welcomed the gathering and delivered the introductory address. Assistant Professor Akshatha B. outlined the key features of the MoU. Shodhan P.G. proposed the vote of thanks, while Neelam Kuttappa compered the event. Placement Officer Abhishek Suvarna was also present.
First and Second Year MCA students participated in the programme.
