St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.
The Quality Assurance Framework of the institution has been developed to assure academic standards and enhance the quality of education. It underlines the institution’s commitment to excellence and improvement.

The Department of Science, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell and Institution’s Innovation Council celebrated the National Science Day on 01 March ,2024 at the SJM Hall.The event was graced by President of the function, Rev.Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, the Principal, and the Guest of Honour and resource person, Dr A P Radhakrishna, Adjunct Professor of the PG Department of Physics at the Centre for PG Studies and Research, St Philomena College, Puttur. The program featured an enlightening talk by Dr A P Radhakrishna on astrophysics wherein he encouraged students to foster a love for science, emphasizing the importance of thinking, speaking, writing, and propagating scientific knowledge. The talk was accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation delivered by students from BSc. The presentation team comprised Krithi K N, Maliha, Riya DSouza of II BSc, and Anjum Nihala of III BSc. A quiz competition was also conducted by Vineeth Lobo of III BSc for BSc students, adding an interactive element to the celebration.
Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, principal of the college, in his presidential address stressed the significance of cultivating a scientific temperament among the youth. He highlighted the potency of science and emphasized the world’s reliance on scientific advancements. He urged the younger generation to align their thoughts, words, and actions with scientific principles, underlining the importance of diligence, passion, and dedication in scientific pursuits.
Dr P S Krishna Kumar, Vice principal and Convenor of the Science Forum was gracefully present on the occaion.
Pratheeksha and the team of III B. Sc rendered prayer, Dr Malini K, coordinator of IQAC extended a warm welcome and provided introductory remarks. Mrs Varija M, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science proposed vote of thanks.Nada I A of III BSc compered the program.
