National work shop on Nuclear Radiation – Experiment and Instrumentation

Puttur: “We have to remember the roots of Science, not the fruits of Science. Science means curiosity. It expands its horizon by answering and exploring the questions. Some appear to be trivial, but there may be a profound truth,” said Dr. Narayana Y, Professor of Physics, Mangalore University. He inaugurated two days National Workshop on nuclear Radiation – Experiment and Instrumentation.

The workshop was organized by the Physics Department of the College in association with the Karnataka Science and Technology Department and the Association of Physics Teachers of Mangalore University.   

The Chief Guest of the function, Dr. BP Ajith Kumar, Scientist, Inter-University Accelerator Center, New Delhi, said, “ nuclear radiation is invisible. Using a suitable detector if we measure the radiation prevailing in a region that will become the background data when any nuclear establishment comes to a region. In this regard, the College and University should take part in”

Speaking on occasion Rev.Dr. Antony Prakash Monteiro, the Principal, said, “the seminar, workshop, and conference are required for exchange of ideas. Science progress through the discussion and exchange of ideas. For almost two years, the activities were standstill due to COVID, and it is the first program to give a boost for the academic endeavor in the College.”

Presiding the program, Rev. Fr Jerome Lawrence Mascarenhas, the Correspondent of the College, said, “Science and technology are two wheels of the progressive society. The discoveries of Science will develop the technology, and the growth of technology will give the impetus for the Science. Teachers and students should be aware of the new developments required for the seminars and workshops.” He lauded the efforts of the Physics Department in organizing the workshop.

Dr. AP Radhakrishna, the coordinator of the workshop, welcomed Dr. Deepak E D’Silva, the coordinator of PG studies in Physics, and proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Chandrashekhar compeerd the program.

Including Dr. BP Ajith Kumar, Dr. Vinod Kumar, Professor, Calicut University, Dr. BP Kithin, founder of CSpark,  New Delhi, delivered lectures on nuclear radiation and detectors and demonstrated various low-cost Equipment. Teachers, students, and research scholars from different Colleges affiliated with Mangalore University attended the workshop.

Dr. Praveen Prakash D’Souza, Dr. Asith, Mr.Vipin Naik, Kum. Pooja Shree Rai gave support in organizing the workshop.
