Promotion of NCC Officer to NCC Captain Rank

St Philomena College is proud to announce the well-deserved promotion of its NCC officer, Lt. Johnson David Sequeira, to the esteemed rank of NCC Captain on October 11, 2023. This significant achievement comes after his successful completion of the ‘Refresher Course’ at the NCC Officer’s Training Academy in Nagpur, spanning 20 days in the month of March. Lt. Johnsons remarkable performance during this course earned him the distinction.

This milestone was acknowledged and endorsed by senior NCC Officers from NCC Directorate New Delhi, as well as Karnataka and Goa Directorate.

Captain Johnson’s journey in the NCC began in 2014, when he was commissioned as a Lieutenant following a grueling three-month training stint in Nagpur. His dedication and excellence in his role were evident, as he served as the Parade Commander and received the prestigious Commandant’s medal.

One of the highlights of his career was serving as the Contingent Officer for the Karnataka and Goa Directorate Contingent during the 2020 All India Republic Day Camp in New Delhi. For his outstanding contributions, he was honored with the DG NCC Commendation Medal. Notably, in 2018, he also received the DDG Commendation medal from the Karnataka and Goa Directorate.

During his illustrious tenure, Captain Johnson has been instrumental in mentoring and guiding the cadets. Under his guidance, seven cadets participated in the All-India Republic Day Camp in New Delhi, three cadets excelled in the All India Thal Sainik Camp, and six cadets successfully joined the Indian Army. Furthermore, more than 200 cadets represented the college in All India NCC Camps, while over 900 cadets actively participated in various state-level NCC camps, reflecting his leadership and commitment to the NCC program.

Captain Johnson himself has been a dedicated participant in over 20 NCC camps, serving as the Camp Adjutant and setting an exemplary standard for the cadets.

In addition to his NCC responsibilities, Captain Johnson currently holds the position of Head of Department of Sociology at St Philomena College and is a member of the Management Committee of the college.

The Correspondent of the college, Very Rev. Fr Lawrence Mascarenhas, along with Principal Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro and Campus Director Rev. Fr Stany Pinto, extend their heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Captain Johnson David Sequeira for his remarkable achievements.

Outside his professional life, Captain Johnson is the son of Daniel Sequeira and Evelyn Sequeira. He is happily married to Savita Sequeira, who serves as a teacher in St Philomena High School, and the couple is blessed with a son named Jonvin Sequeira. Captain Johnson and his family reside in Karmala, Puttur.
