St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

3/19 Karnataka Battalion NCC Army Wing and 5 Kar Naval NCC Unit, organized a Tree Plantation event at St Philomena College Campus Puttur on the occasion of NCC Day. The Chief Guest, Prof. Vasudeva N, NSS Program Officer, planted a fruit sapling and addressed the cadets. He emphasized the significance of NCC, the largest organization in the country, and encouraged the planting of saplings, envisioning a positive impact on the environment and appreciated the initiative of NCC as a valuable gift to future generations. Hav. Suresh, the PI Staff of 19 Kar Bn NCC Madikeri, actively participated in the Tree Planting Program. A total of 20 various fruit saplings were planted around the campus, with cadets committing to regular watering every two days. Capt. Johnson David Sequeira, the NCC Officer, and C/T ANO Tejaswi Bhat, the Naval Officer coordinated of the program.
