St Philomena College was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.

In a demonstration of civic responsibility, the National Cadet Corps (NCC) units of St Philomena College (Autonomous) Puttur spearheaded a “Swachhata Hi Seva” cleanliness drive today, making a significant impact on public spaces in the town.
The collaborative initiative saw cadets from both the 3/19 Karnataka Battalion NCC Army Wing and the 5 Karnataka Naval Unit NCC join forces. Their mission: to meticulously clean Father Patrao Circle, the public bus stand, and a section of the vital NH 275 highway.
Armed with brooms and garbage bags, the enthusiastic cadets focused on the removal of plastic waste and other non-recyclable debris that had accumulated in the area. Their efforts not only left the public spaces visibly cleaner but also served as a powerful example for the local community.
“This drive is more than just cleaning; it’s about instilling a sense of duty and environmental consciousness in our youth,” said Capt. Johnson David Sequeira, the Army NCC officer, who led the effort alongside Naval NCC officer Tejaswi Bhat.
The officers and cadets engaged with locals, spreading awareness about the critical need for maintaining public hygiene and adopting sustainable waste management practices. The initiative reinforced the spirit of the “Swachhata Hi Seva” movement, showing how collective action can lead to tangible improvements in public health and aesthetics. The cadets” hard work and dedication were widely appreciated by the commuters and residents of the area.
