St Philomena College(Autonomous) was founded by Msgr Antony Patrao who felt that a College in this part of the state would save the people of the inconvenience of moving to distant places for higher education. He set out to realize his dream and the mission was accomplished in the year 1958.
Since its inception, the Institute has lived up to societal expectations, turning out consistent and appreciable results in academic and non-academic fields. The institution does attempt to treat the primary stakeholders in 5 UG programs and 5 PG programs with a rewarding educational experience.
The Quality Assurance Framework of the institution has been developed to assure academic standards and enhance the quality of education. It underlines the institution’s commitment to excellence and improvement.

In a recent event inaugurating the annual activities of the National Service Scheme at St Philomena College, Vice Principal Dr A.P. Radhakrishna, emphasized the importance of village development in strengthening India as a nation. He stressed that the true strength of India lies in the progress and development of its villages. Dr Radhakrishna urged NSS units to commit themselves to the cause of village development and encouraged NSS volunteers to strive towards realizing Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of ‘village swaraj’.
Furthermore, he emphasized the significance of maintaining high morale within NSS units. He suggested that NSS volunteers could play a pivotal role in raising awareness among villagers about critical issues such as cleanliness, water conservation, health, and environmental protection. Thus, they can act as catalysts for the development of both the villages and the nation.
Principal Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, in his presidential address stressed the importance of giving back to society. He highlighted how everyone has benefited from society in their lives and urged NSS units to engage in meaningful social work to repay this debt to society.
Disha rendered prayer. NSS officer Vasudeva N, welcomed. NSS Officer Pushpa proposed vote of thanks. Bindushri compered the programme. Leaders of the NSS units of the college, Manoj, Uma Alva, Sinchan, and Kirti K, were present on the stage. Cultural programme followed the formal inaugural programme by the NSS volunteers.
